Joshua started playing soccer at the tender age of 4 in Saratoga Springs NY, where he played all of his youth soccer in the recreational and developmental leagues.
Going to High Mowing School, In Wilton NH, he grew into a dominate player. He began his soccer career as a starting goal keeper, then moved into midfield in his second year, and forward to finish off his high school soccer.
He was awarded MVP, as well as best offensive player two years in a row. He continued to play college soccer at Warren Wilson College, earning the MVP in his sophomore year. He began coaching soccer in the middle school at Carolina Day School in 2009, and quickly became the high school varsity head coach by 2010. Later in 2010, he moved to Colorado to take his coaching licenses and work at Boulder indoor, as a camp counselor, coach and referee. One day, he was invited to play in a weekly futsal game with club directors and coaches from the area, playing on the team with former US Men’s National team captain, Marcelo Balboa. Chelo, as he likes to be called, and Joshua had good chemistry on the field, and while talking after the game, Joshua was invited to work with Chelo at Trebol Soccer club in the capacity of Technical Director, then promoted to Director of Coaching. While in Colorado, Joshua was also the Head Men’s soccer coach for one season, at Alexander Dawson school, where they won the region and made it to the state playoffs.
In 2015 he moved back to Asheville to take the head coach position at Warren Wilson College, under the former Athletic Director Stacey Enos, who played on the first US Women’s National team. At Warren Wilson College, he was also the field manager and helped improve the facility and proposed the new athletic field they are currently building. During the Spring of 2017 and 2018, he coached the top team at Asheville Shield, developing players and helping to grow the program into a highly competitive, youth club they are now today. This passion for teaching kids is what has brought me to my current position of Director of Soccer at ARC.
