Celebrating Donna Cannone

Donna Cannone, long time ARC employee and swim instructor, is retiring her fins.  “Miss Donna” has taught countless local children how to swim for the last 20+ years and was instrumental in the success of the Polar Bear Plunge.  Donna was the key person in making the polar bear plunge such a success; raising over $100,000.00 in the nine years that ARC hosted the event. But she did not stop there, not only did she help organize the Plunge but even jumped a few times.  Donna started her employment at the South Club and moved to the Downtown Club when the indoor pool was completed.  Donna was instrumental in the start of the ARC Swim Team and various ARC aquatic programs.

Donna has a strong commitment to family, both her ARC family and her biological family.  Some of her children have worked under her over the years and it is not uncommon for Donna to get in a car and drive hours upon hours to help a family member to turn around and be back to service her ARC family; always showing such strong loyalty and dedication to those that she loves.

Although Donna’s professional accomplishments are many, Donna is most well known as a blessed soul, a friend to all and always championing others.  In addition to Donna’s grateful heart, she has and adventurous spirt that has taken her to the beaches of Hawaii and the mountains of Colorado Donna always puts others first and is the first to lend a helping hand.  One year, Donna’s birthday wish was to donate to an orphanage in Honduras.  Donna had spent a week in Honduras working at the orphanage working with the staff and children.   And true to form, upon her retirement Donna wants to do something to help others. Donna’s Duck Derby will benefit a local non-profit called Sleep Tight Kids.   Sleep Tight Kids is a local, volunteer based, non-profit that forms comfort items/bags for children in need.  Many people enjoy the “luxury” of comfort at bedtime, which might include book reading, a blanket, stuffed animal, brushing teeth, etc.  There are many kids in our local counties that aren’t blessed with those comforts. Sleep Tight Kids services kids that are put into very poor circumstances, at no fault of their own.  When they are displaced from their homes, they are taken with zero belongings and Sleep Tight Kids provides comfort items/bags to those children.

Please join us on Monday, September 6 for Donna’s Duck Derby from 2:00 to 3:00   The duckies will race in the ARC South pool.  Please purchase your duck for $5 at the South Front desk and all proceeds will be donated to Sleep Tight Kids.

ARC has been truly blessed to have Donna on our staff and she will be greatly missed.  Please come by the ARC South Pool on Monday afternoon to wish her luck in her next endeavors
